Ken Moores Discography

White Lies And Alibis by Ken Moores

This CD is the product of 30+ years of songwriting. Some tunes are less than a year old and some have been around since the 60s. Is it Blues? Rock? Soft Rock? Americana? Bluegrass? Country? Yes!!! There are only two kinds of people in the world, those that put people into two categories and those that don't. I'm in the second category and so is my music. The problem is ......I just love it all. As a songwriter, genres are all colours in the paintbox to me. Visit Sun Studios in Memphis and see how Blues, Country, Soul, Jazz, Rockabilly and Rock and Roll all came from the same place and all say the same thing.

In the days when we had 'albums' an artist could put lots of biographical and song information in a readable font on the album cover. With the advent of CDs and downloadable music that process has changed a lot so, for those who want it, here's some extra info on the tunes on this CD. Enjoy and let me know what you think. Thanks for listening, Ken Moores

Make A Little Time - My dear wife, Janice, works at the Space Center and has a schedule opposite to mine. We are often like two ships passing in the night. That really sucks!

She's Trouble - A bad woman song. Lord, knows I've had my share! Check my book, the Devil's Music, for details.

She Don't Think I Notice - Even with our strained schedules we try to take good care of each other, Cute, eh?

Wish I Was In Heaven Sittin' Down - This traditional song goes out to all the poor laborers who spend all day on their feet. I love singing with Tammy Paoletti!

Living In The Promised Land - Some times life doesn't turn out like we've planned. Some people whine about it and others don't. More about that later.

Cheatin' Woman Blues - This is the first tune I wrote at age eleven. What the hell did I know about cheating women at age eleven!! Took a long time but I finally got a recorded version I'm happy with.

Woman In Love - I wrote this for Janice, the love of my life, when we met in Japan 14 years ago.

Devil's Game - Inspired by my favorite New Orleans piano man, Jon Cleary. I heard the lyrics wrong to his Fool's Game and it led to a whole new tune.

Death Come A-Knockin' - I heard this in a dream when I was very young. It's stuck in my head ever since.

Getting Old - A true story, folks, a true story!

Count Your Blessings - I wrote this specifically for Kenny Clarke, the incredible B3 man, so he could wail away at what he does best. Tough times call for tough measures. After the whining is over, just count your blessings and move on.

Alibis and Little White Lies - So Dave Munkhoff says what are you going to call your CD and I say White Lies and Alibis which sounded pretty poetic to me and he says well you've got to have a new song then and so this is the result. This points to the Machiavelli in all of us.

KEN MOORES: White Lies And Alibis

Countrified by Ken Moores

This collection of tunes spans almost 30 years of songwriting. Some have kicked around my repertoire for years and stood the test of time. Others are fresh out of the nest, flexing their wings and still learningto fly. Country music, along with blues, folk, bluegrass, gospel and rock has and continues to be a huge influence on my songwriting. I remember being moved to tears the first time I heard 'Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain'. Some of the most memorable musical events in my life have occured while sitting around a cabin, camp fire or woodstove picking out simpIe country tunes on an old beat-up acoustic with a few good friends and a few appreciative listeners. I was delighted when the Beatles and the Rolling Stones honored country music by including country songs on their albums. Into the seventies and eighties, the Eagles and several other 'country rock' bands continued to educate a new generation of listeners.
I started out in my musical life listening to my mom play gospel on the piano. My grandfather gave me my first guitar at age six and I got my chops together around the nightly camp fire at summer camp. We played simple tunes that everyone knew. My brother and I spent endless hours harmonizing to EverIy Brother's tunes in the hack seat of our dad's Volkswagen. As time went on, I explored the rock and blues worlds and all the musical wonders they contained, but I never forgot the sounds that I first heard when I was young. Country music has a hold an my soul and I will always return to it. When I'm worn out from the boxing match of everyday life in a complex world, getting 'countrified' helps me reload. Hope you enjoy listening to this CD as much as I enjoyed making it.

Alberto's Dream by Ken Moores

First, a word about Alberto. Alberto is a wonderful guy from Portugal who spent about 8 months in Japan doing some kind of training at an auto parts factory. Now, at this factory there was a strange collection of people: Brazilians, a few Canadians, Americans, Aussies, and what have you, along with 1001 Japanese.
Alberto was loved by one and all. Before he went back to Portugal, I had the pleasure of sneaking up while he was sleeping, inserting wires into his brain and recording one of his dreams (Track 11). As strange and disgusting as this may seem, I felt it was my obligation as inducer of this CD, to faithfully reproduce his dream. Unedited, in full, so that people, no matter where they may be, will know what goes on in the mind of an ordinary human being. I wrote most of these songs myself. Some, I just wrote the lyrics. Some, I stole from other people and gave them no credit at all. One song has no words, but it has a lot of sounds from Japan that I wanted to remember. So, I went out early in the morning with my little MD recorder and got a lot of mosquito bites, but it doesn’t matter ‘cause I had fun.

Home Made In Japan by Sugarsnake

For six and a half years, I made my home in Japan. During that time, I was able to keep connected to my home country and my home Culture by playing and recording home made music with my home made band. As time went on, I began to think of Japan as my home. The longer I stayed in Japan, and the more music I played in my home studio, the more I felt at home. At home in the country where I had made my new home in, Japan. Sugarsnake is not a professional band in the sense that we are ready to dedicate our lives to the pursuit of fame and fortune. But, we are professional in the sense that we take great care in producing and reproducing music that we love. I will soon be moving to Canada, my old home, but that will not be the end of Sugarsnake. Through the miracle of digital attachable files, we will Continue to make home made music, thumbing our noses at geographical separation. Stay tuned, faithful fans. Ken Moores, July 23rd, 2001.

Random Acts Of Memory by Sugarsnake

Random Acts of Memory, aside from the obvious pun, seemed an appropriate selection for this CD’s title because that’s exactly what it is. I have randomly delved into my memory and selected favorites of mine that I thought might be fun to play with my fellow Japanese band members. They do not share my North American cultural background and have relied on me, the guy that was really there when all this great music was happening for the first time, to pass on to them musically important songs.
Every one of these tunes was important in my musical education. I have wonderful memories of performing all of them. My hope is that the listener will be transported into their own audio museum and experience, once again, the thrill of these rock and roll classics. Enjoy! Thanks to everyone for all their hard work. I’ll sure miss you guys!
